Artist Bio
Romy Bennie (b. 1994, Mullumbimby) is a ceramic artist based in the Northern Rivers, NSW. She began working with clay in 2014 and has since developed a practice that explores both functional and sculptural forms. Romy has undertaken numerous short courses, workshops, and voluntary roles within the ceramic community, deepening her knowledge through a practice-led approach. Her work is characterised by tactile surfaces and a sense of mystery, reflecting her ongoing interest in ceramics as both object and narrative.
Artist Statement
Romy’s practice is guided by an intuitive engagement with clay, where process and touch shape each piece. Drawn to the transformative quality of ceramics, she creates works that balance function with sculptural presence. Her forms often carry a mystical, dreamlike quality, inviting pause and reflection. Inspired by folklore, the natural world, and the unseen, Romy’s ceramics seek to evoke a sense of wonder and connection, serving as quiet reminders of beauty in the everyday.
